For the duration of the Wikipedia on Aruba project (October 2024 to at least December 2025, see below for project description) we are looking for a

Wikimedian in Residence / Project Coordinator Open Knowledge Aruba (18 months/0,8 fte)  

Job description

The Wikimedian in Residence will be the coordinator and point of contact for the project on Aruba, acting as a liaison between cultural heritage organisations, volunteers, the Wikimedia platforms and the (global) Wikimedia movement.

  • You organize and coordinate online and real life activities such as workshops, training sessions and competitions about (working with) Wikimedia.
  • You liaise with organizations on Aruba and in the Netherlands to assess their needs, wishes are w.r.t sharing their knowledge and collections on Wikimedia platforms.
  • You support the existing community of volunteers behind the Papiamento, Dutch and English Wikipedia working with a focus on Aruba and wider Dutch Caribbean culture, history and heritage.
  • You reach out to groups and individuals on Aruba who are interested in sharing their knowledge with the Wikimedia platforms and provide them with training and support.

Job requirements

We invite you to apply if you recognize yourself in two or more of the following requirements:

  • Bachelor or Masters degree or equivalent level of thinking and working
  • relevant experience as a project lead in community engagement and/or open knowledge.
  • You have an existing network within education, NGO’s and culture & heritage organisations and key figures on Aruba.
  • You have proven organizational and problem solving skills and are able to work independently while keeping your partners informed.
  • You have strong listening, negotiation and conflict resolution skills and are sensitive to your surroundings.
  • You have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English and Papiamento and Dutch, including the ability to bridge functional and technical resources by communicating effectively with individuals of varying systems expertise and needs.
  • You are skilled in conducting interviews and facilitating group meetings.
  • You are skilled in developing training programs and conducting training.
  • You have advanced digital literacy and are at home online.
  • Knowledge of/experience with Wikipedia and other Wikimedia initiatives of course would be a bonus.

 

Salary and package

The Wikimedian in Residence will be formally employed by Monuments Fund Aruba for the duration of the project (18 months). Gross salary will be maximum 4145 AFL for full time employment.

 

The Wikimedian in Residence will be based on Aruba. A two week training program in the Netherlands will be part of the employment.

 

The Wikimedian in Residence reports to and is supported by the project steering committee consisting of Archivo Nacional Arubano, Biblioteca Nacional Aruba, Monuments Fund Aruba, UNOCA and Wikimedia Nederland.

About the project ‘Wikipedia on Aruba | Aruba on Wikipedia’

The project “Wikipedia on Aruba” aims to make Aruban and Dutch Caribbean culture and heritage widely and sustainably accessible and visible on various Wikimedia platforms. Its goal is to motivate and enable people and institutions to share their knowledge via Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikidata. The primary objective is to stimulate and support a thriving and sustainable Wikimedia community in Aruba, focused on documenting and sharing Aruban culture and heritage through these platforms.

This is a Wikimedia Nederland project, in cooperation with Archivo Nacional Arubano, Biblioteca Nacional Aruba, Monuments Fund Aruba & UNOCA.
